Family
Families can be an essential source of support, encouragement, and love, but sometimes relationships within the family are put under strain and individual members can feel isolated and overlooked. Family counselling can help with siblings who are not getting on, behavioral issues, parenting skills, or when parents are separating or getting divorced. Or perhaps you are facing the challenges of forming a new family, and you need professional advice.
Whatever your issues, family therapy helps family members improve communication and resolve conflicts - focusing on solving problems that prevent them from functioning in a healthy way.
Each family therapy session lasts for 50 minutes. They usually take place every week or fortnightly with the whole family in one room. We work more actively in asking questions then in normal therapy and we work in a team to help family members find a way to help each other through communication and honesty.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a technique often used to help family members. CBT is a short-term technique that will teach family members how to manage their behaviours more effectively with new tools and skills.
We may also recommend psychotherapy to help families. This is a deeper, more intense technique that can give members a better understanding of their personalities, their thoughts and their behaviours. When you understand your behaviours, you can start to change them, resolve your issues, and have a happier family life.
