Health Psychology
This service offers a comprehensive health assessment through a structured one to one interview, providing an opportunity to gain a detailed understanding of your presenting concerns, lifestyle, psychological wellbeing, and personal circumstances.
Following the assessment, I produce a detailed written health report that summarises the information gathered and provides personalised, evidence-based recommendations tailored to your individual needs. Depending on your circumstances, these recommendations may include guidance on stress management, behaviour change, sleep, physical activity, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, self-management of long-term health conditions, and strategies to improve your overall quality of life.
Where appropriate, I may also recommend additional sources of support or signpost you to relevant services that could further assist you in achieving your health and wellbeing goals.
Who Am I?
Joshua Wicks
I have a master’s degree in health psychology and am a Member of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS). My work focuses on understanding the relationship between physical health, psychological wellbeing, and health behaviours, with the aim of supporting individuals who are experiencing health challenges that impact their quality of life and mental health.
Living with Type 1 diabetes myself has given me a personal understanding that managing a health condition involves more than addressing physical symptoms alone. The responsibilities, adjustments, and emotional challenges associated with long term conditions can significantly impact mental wellbeing. Similarly, challenges such as weight management, sleep difficulties, reduced activity, or maintaining healthy routines are often influenced by psychological factors including stress, motivation, confidence, and emotional wellbeing. This experience has reinforced the importance of supporting individuals beyond physical care by recognising the everyday challenges that can affect their ability to make and sustain positive changes.
Through my MSc in Health Psychology, I have developed knowledge in areas including behaviour change, stress and coping, health promotion, long term condition management, and the relationship between mental and physical health. I have also gained practical experience through my placement as a Social Prescriber within a counselling service, where I supported individuals by understanding their personal circumstances, identifying barriers affecting their wellbeing, and helping them access appropriate sources of support.
Combining my academic knowledge, professional experience, and personal understanding of living with a health condition allows me to provide a service that is compassionate, evidence based and tailored to the individual needs of each person.
Why choose this service?
Understanding the factors that influence your health and wellbeing is an important step towards making meaningful and sustainable improvements. It can be easy to say, “I need to make healthier choices,” but successfully putting these changes into practice often requires more than simple advice. It requires an understanding of the psychological, behavioural, and lifestyle factors that influence motivation, confidence, habits, and the ability to maintain positive changes over time. Since everyone’s circumstances, experiences, routines, and challenges are different, a personalised report that considers these individual factors can provide greater value by ensuring recommendations are relevant, realistic, and tailored to your specific circumstances.
The written report provides a valuable resource that you can return to over time, helping you implement changes at your own pace and use the recommendations as a guide for improving your overall wellbeing.
Whether you are experiencing difficulties with sleep, struggling with motivation or lifestyle changes, looking to improve your relationship with food or physical activity, managing stress, curbing a health-related habit, or adapting to life with a long-term health condition, this service provides structured guidance and practical recommendations to help you take positive steps towards improved health and quality of life.

How Does This Differ from Therapy?
Although both services aim to improve wellbeing, therapy generally focuses on exploring emotions, thoughts, past experiences, and psychological difficulties through regular sessions with the aim of supporting emotional growth and psychological recovery over time.
This health assessment service is focused on evaluating the factors that may be influencing your health and wellbeing and translating those findings into a structured, evidence-based health report. Rather than providing ongoing therapeutic treatment, the assessment identifies areas for improvement and offers personalised recommendations that you can begin implementing immediately.
Many people find that the two approaches complement one another. A health assessment can provide clarity, direction, and practical strategies that support behaviour change, while therapy can offer ongoing emotional support and psychological intervention where needed. Whether used independently or alongside counselling or other healthcare services, the assessment is designed to provide you with a personalised roadmap towards improved health and wellbeing.
